Class 7 student dies from choking on bread in Tangail
A seventh-grade schoolgirl named Anika Jannat, 13, has died after bread got stuck in her throat while eating in Sakhipur, Tangail. The incident occurred on Thursday evening.
The deceased was the daughter of expatriate Azgar Mia from Haludia Chala village in the upazila. She was a seventh-grade student at Surya Tarun Residential Academy.
Family sources said a long-running legal case was ongoing between Anika's parents. As her father was abroad, Anika lived with her mother at her grandfather's house.
According to family sources, Anika was eating bread during a study break this evening when the food suddenly got stuck in her throat. She fell ill, and family members rushed her to Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared her dead upon examination.
Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex Sub-Assistant Community Medical Officer Selim Kabir said she had died before being brought to the hospital.
Sakhipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Murad Hossain said he was aware of the incident. The body has been sent to Tangail morgue for autopsy, and legal proceedings are underway.
