Classroom floor collapses in Habiganj, 5 students injured
Five students were injured when a section of the classroom floor collapsed during class at a government primary school in Azmiriganj, Habiganj. The incident occurred at Pirijpur Government Primary School in Badalpur union around 12:30pm on Monday, September 7.
School authorities said fourth-grade classes were underway when a large crack suddenly appeared on the floor. Before anyone could react, a section of the floor collapsed, injuring five students who were present.
Four of the injured have been identified: Rahim Badsha, Md Abdul Mannan Mia, Mozakkir Mia and Azinur Mia. All are fourth-grade students of the school. They were rescued with the help of locals and taken to Azmiriganj Upazila Health Complex.
After receiving primary treatment at the health complex, the injured students were sent home. The incident has caused panic among students and parents.
School acting head teacher Subutur Nesa said the classroom floor collapsed suddenly during class, injuring five students. The injured were rescued and given medical attention immediately after the incident.
Upazila Primary Education Officer Sheikh Md Rafiqul Islam said they visited the school after receiving the news. Preliminary investigation suggests the collapse may have occurred due to sand and soil erosion from one side of the floor. He noted that the school building was relatively new.
Acting Upazila Executive Officer Md Jasim Uddin Chowdhury said engineers from LGED and education officials have been sent to the spot to investigate the cause. Necessary action will be taken after receiving their report.
