CNG drivers take to streets in Chattogram over fuel shortage
Hundreds of CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers blocked a major road in Chattogram’s Sholoshahar area on Friday morning (August 14) after waiting for hours without receiving gas.
The blockade brought traffic to a standstill on the main road between Muradpur and Gate No. 2 as drivers took to the street in protest over the prolonged gas shortage.
Local sources said hundreds of auto-rickshaws had been lined up overnight outside the Fossil Filling Station to refuel. However, the station could not supply gas because of a lack of gas pressure, prompting frustrated drivers to block the road.
An official of the filling station confirmed that no vehicles could be refuelled because of the supply shortage.
Md Zahedul Islam, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchlaish Police Station, said, "Efforts are underway to clear the road and restore normal traffic. Additional personnel had been deployed at the scene to prevent any untoward incident."
