Coast Guard joins army, police, BGB in Gopalganj
The Coast Guard has joined the army, police and BGB in controlling the violent situation that arose around the National Citizen Party (NCP) rally in Gopalganj.
The Coast Guard headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday (July 16) night that they have started performing their duties to control the law and order situation.
Earlier, as violence increased in the afternoon, four platoons of BGB were deployed in Gopalganj along with the army and police.
According to local sources, when the NCP leaders and activists were dispersing after the rally, a group of people surrounded them and tried to attack them. The situation became heated after the vehicles were blocked from all sides.
Police and army members tried to control the tension by firing sound grenades and blank bullets. Later, the NCP leaders and activists took an alternative route and left the scene.
So far, four deaths have been reported in this incident. One person who was shot has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
The local administration is said to be closely monitoring the situation.
