A series of powerful explosions rocked a family graveyard in Chapainawabganj’s Ranihati area early Monday morning, causing widespread panic among residents. Locals reported that 15 to 20 homemade explosives (cocktails) had been buried behind a house in the Dhumihayatpur area and detonated around 4:00am.

The blasts caused significant damage to the boundary wall of the graveyard and sent shockwaves through the neighborhood. Panic spread quickly as residents rushed out of their homes upon hearing the loud explosions. Smoke was seen billowing from the site shortly after the incident.

Eyewitnesses said the explosives appeared to have been intentionally buried in the private cemetery, possibly for storage. “It looked like at least 15 to 20 cocktails were planted there,” said a local resident.

However, police offered a more conservative estimate. Matiur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed the incident and stated that 6 to 7 cocktails had exploded. “Preliminary investigation suggests the cocktails were stored underground. Legal proceedings are currently underway,” he said.

Authorities are yet to determine who was responsible for storing the explosives or the motive behind it.
