Cocktail explosions in front of Prime Minister's Office
Two cocktails have been thrown in front of the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka. Of these, one cocktail exploded, while the other was recovered unexploded by law enforcement agencies. Police are conducting operations to identify and arrest two motorcycle-borne individuals suspected of involvement in the incident.
According to police, the incident took place around 1:15am on Friday night, October 9. At that time, two individuals came in front of the Prime Minister's Office on a motorcycle. After staying there for two to three minutes and observing the surroundings, they threw two cocktails and fled. Police confirmed they later went towards the Kafrul road via Agargaon.
Upon receiving the news, the bomb disposal unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) reached the scene at night, recovered the unexploded cocktail and safely defused it.
DMP Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ibne Mizan conveyed this information to journalists after inspecting the scene.
Saying the incident is being investigated with the highest priority, DC Ibne Mizan told journalists, "Immediately after the incident, multiple police teams took to the field. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being collected to identify those involved. The incident is being viewed with the highest priority and work is underway to arrest those involved."
The police official further said the miscreants came to the scene using a connecting road, avoiding the main road, and fled after throwing the cocktails. As there was a security arrangement centred on the main road, they had chosen an alternative route.
Meanwhile, police said the unexploded cocktail recovered from the scene was examined and no splinters or other harmful elements were found in it. In preliminary observation, the object was like a firecracker, the DMP Tejgaon Division deputy commissioner noted.
