College student drowns while bathing at Sadapathar area in Sylhet

A 21-year-old college student drowned while taking a bath at the Sadapathar tourist spot in Companiganj upazila of Sylhet on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Mainul Islam Rifat, son of Hatim Mia from Brahmanbaria. Rifat was an honors first-year student at Nabinagar Government College.

According to local police and the victim's friends, a group of four friends, including Rifat, had traveled from Brahmanbaria to visit the popular tourist destination. Shortly after arriving at the site around 11am, they all went into the river to bathe. Rifat suddenly went missing under the strong current.

His body was later retrieved from the side of the river downstream.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Companiganj Police Station, Usman Gani, confirmed the incident, stating that the body was recovered and brought to the Companiganj Health Complex. Police noted that further legal procedures regarding the incident are currently underway.
