College student hacked to death in Sirajganj

A college student named Abdur Rahman Riyad, 18, was hacked to death in public in Sirajganj town.

The attack took place at around 4.30pm on Sunday, December 28, on Bahirgola Road near Chourasta intersection in the town. Riyad later died while undergoing treatment at Shaheed M Mansur Ali Medical College Hospital at night.

The incident was confirmed by Sub-Inspector Pronoy Kumar of Sadar police station.

Riyad was the son of Md Rezaul Karim of Sayadhanagora Khan Para area of the town and a first-year student of Islamia Government College.

CCTV footage of the attack has surfaced on social media. The video shows Riyad sitting inside a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Bahirgola Road at Chourasta when several young men surrounded the vehicle and hacked him inside it before fleeing.

Local people rescued the critically injured Riyad and rushed him to Shaheed M Mansur Ali Medical College Hospital, where he died later that night.

SI Pronoy Kumar said miscreants attacked Riyad with machetes and other sharp weapons around 4.30pm. His body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy, and police are trying to identify and arrest those involved in the killing.
