College student killed in Netrokona after dispute over music at wedding ceremony
A college student named Faisal Ahmed, 19, was killed in a clash between two parties over sound box dispute and taking pictures at a wedding function in Netrokona. At least three others were injured in the clash.
The incident took place on the road adjacent to the Babnikona Sangsad Bazar mosque in Challisha Union of Sadar Upazila on Monday night. The deceased Faisal was the son of Nazrul Islam of the area and a class 12 student of Abu Abbas Degree College in Netrokona.
According to local residents and police sources, the wedding of the daughter of Idris Mia was being organized in the Babnikona Sangsad Bazar area on Monday. Faisal and some of his friends got into an argument with Masum Mia, son of Kamrul Islam of the same village, over sound box dispute and taking pictures around 12:45am. At one stage, Masum allegedly attacked Faisal and others along with his family members.
Along with Faisal, his cousin Robin Mia, uncle Sadequl Islam and cousin Ujjwal Mia's son Sourav Mia were injured in the attack. Locals rescued them and took them to the 250-bed district hospital in Netrokona. After initial treatment there, Faisal and Sadequl were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Faisal died around 2:30am while undergoing treatment.
The injured Sadequl Islam alleged that Masum and his father Kamrul Islam, along with some members of the family, attacked them with sticks and local weapons. He demanded exemplary punishment for the attackers.
No statement was received from the accused Masum or his family in this regard. Local sources said that the accused left their homes and went into hiding after the news of Faisal's death spread.
Netrakona Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Sajal Kumar Sarkar said that college student Faisal was killed and several others were injured in the attack due to a dispute over sound boxes and photography at a wedding ceremony. The body has been recovered and kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy. One person has been detained for questioning in the incident and a drive is underway to arrest the remaining accused, he said.
