Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin has proven his role in reducing countervailing duties through successful negotiations with the United States, said Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, the interim government's adviser on power, energy and mineral resources.

In a Facebook post on Friday (August 1), the Adviser wrote, "From keeping domestic product prices stable to leading successful tariff negotiations with the U.S., he (Sheikh Bashiruddin) has proven his competence, silencing critics."

In a separate post, Fouzul Kabir Khan described his involvement in the selection process of Sheikh Bashiruddin as Commerce Adviser. He noted that, under the direction of the Chief Adviser, he was tasked with meeting candidates for the role. At the time, Sheikh Bashiruddin was on a business trip in Bhola and was initially contacted by phone before attending a meeting at the Ministry of Energy in Dhaka.

"Although we had never met before, we spoke frankly for nearly an hour," Khan wrote. "He declined the breakfast offered by my office, but I observed in him a deep sense of patriotism, a strong intolerance for injustice, and an exceptional ability to process and analyze large volumes of information."

Following that meeting, Fouzul Kabir Khan said he relayed his assessment to the Chief Adviser, who later appointed Sheikh Bashiruddin to the role. "By the grace of God, he accepted the responsibility," Fouzul Kabir Khan added.

He concluded his post by saying, “May God grant him Hayate Tayyiba, so he may continue to serve the country — in government or beyond.”
