Complaint filed over fire incident at playwright's house in Kaliganj

A complaint has been filed with the Kaliganj police station regarding the fire at the house of writer and playwright Prashant Kumar Halder in Raghunathpur area of ​​Kaliganj upazila in Jhenaidah.

Prashant Kumar Halder filed the complaint with Kaliganj police station at 3 pm on Saturday (May 24).

Later that day, administration officials visited the scene.

According to the report, a fire broke out at Halder's house in Natabaria area of ​​Raghunathpur at around 2 am last Thursday. At that time, neighbors saw the fire and informed the fire service. The firefighters came and brought the fire under control. Stuff worth about Tk4 lakh was damaged due to fire.

Jhenaidah Police Superintendent Manjur Morshed, Additional Police Superintendent Imran Zakaria, Upazila Executive Officer Dedarul Islam and Kaliganj Police Station Investigation OC Mofazzel Hossain and others visited the scene on Saturday evening.

In this regard, the owner of the house, Nirmal Halder, said that someone came late on Thursday night and set fire to the back of the main building of the house. Everyone in the house was asleep at that time. They woke up to the screams of the neighbors and saw that the house was on fire. Later, the fire service personnel came and brought the fire under control.

Writer and playwright Prashant Kumar Halder said that he lives in Dhaka with his wife and children.

He came home on Saturday after the fire was set on fire on Thursday midnight. Then he filed a complaint with the police station. In this incident, the wood kept for making furniture, chalk and other things behind the main building of the house were burnt to ashes. In addition, the fire had also spread to the cowshed.

He also said that there have been incidents of people smearing human feces in the kitchen of their house before. In addition, there have been incidents of bricks and stones being thrown at the two-story house from a distance several times.

In this regard, Jhenaidah district's Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Imran Zakaria said, "We went to inspect the scene on Saturday afternoon after receiving the information. We have said that we will file a case for legal assistance. But Prashant Halder does not want to file a case as he does not suspect anyone. However, the police are active in the matter. Police patrols have been strengthened in the area."

In this regard, Kaliganj Upazila Executive Officer Md. Dedarul Islam said, "After learning about the matter, I went to inspect the scene on Saturday afternoon. The police will investigate the incident and take action against the culprits."
