Concert held at Brahmanbaria college amid Qawmi students’ objections
A fresher’s reception, cultural programme and concert have been held at Brahmanbaria Government College amid objections from Qawmi Chhatra Oikya Parishad and discussions-criticisms surrounding the event. The entire programme was completed without any unpleasant incident.
Engineer Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamol, MP of Brahmanbaria Sadar-3 and chairman of the parliamentary standing committee related to the Ministry of Commerce, inaugurated the fresher’s reception and tree plantation programme around 12pm on Monday (September 14). District Council administrator and district BNP general secretary Sirajul Islam Siraj along with leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliate organisations were present at the time. College principal AKM Ubaidul Haque presided over the programme.
In his speech as chief guest, Engineer Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamol urged students never to consider themselves weak or less talented. He said students must utilise the opportunity of studying at a government college to advance further in knowledge and skills.
He further said a new kind of political education has been gained from the mass uprising of 2024. Instead of politics of words, slogans or threats and intimidation, tolerance is needed in student politics. He also emphasized conducting politics on the college campus by understanding students’ opinions, behavior and demands.
As a concert was scheduled for 3pm in the second part of the programme, additional police were deployed in the south campus of the college and surrounding areas after noon. Volunteer teams were also formed from among the students and assigned duties at the venue. Besides several thousand students, students from various educational institutions took part in the concert.
The cultural programme began at the south campus of the college around 3:30pm. Popular band ‘Highway’ performed music. Students present became enthusiastic with the performance of Hasan Ether. With strengthened security arrangements, the fresher’s reception and concert ended without any unpleasant incident.
