Constable and wife jailed over cutting child's finger

Police have arrested constable Shakil and his wife Nasrin over the incident of cutting off the finger of a child named Bayezid (8) following a dispute between two children in Natore.

They were sent to jail through court at 10am on Friday, September 25. They had been arrested on Thursday night after the complaint was received.

The accused constable Shakil works at the Natore Superintendent of Police's office. He lived as a tenant on the second floor of the injured child's house in the West Chairmanpara area of Baraharishpur in the town.

Natore Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mansur Ali confirmed the arrest and said the child's family filed a complaint after the incident. Police arrested the accused constable Shakil and his wife immediately after receiving the complaint. They were produced before the court on Friday morning. The investigation into the case is ongoing.

It may be mentioned that on Thursday, September 24, noon, allegations emerged against police constable Shakil of cutting off a finger of the right hand of a child named Bayezid (8) in the West Chairmanpara area of Baraharishpur in Natore town. The accused Shakil lived as a tenant in a portion of the second floor of the same building. Earlier, a quarrel had occurred between Bayezid and Shakil's daughter centring play. Centring that incident, Shakil took the child to his room and cut off a finger of his right hand. Later, the seriously injured Bayezid was taken to Natore Sadar Hospital and then sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. The incident caused widespread stir in the area.
