Constable's hanging body recovered from Dhaka police lines
A police constable was found dead after being recovered hanging from a room at the Public Order Management (POM) East Police Lines in the capital's Demra late Thursday night (July 16), with police initially suspecting the death to be a case of suicide.
The deceased was identified as Saidul Islam, 21, a constable who joined Bangladesh Police around nine months ago. He hailed from Lemuya Uttar Chandpur in Feni Sadar upazila.
According to police, Saidul shared a seventh-floor room with four other colleagues. At the time of the incident, the others were on duty while he was alone in the room. Around midnight, fellow officers found the room locked from the inside and alerted Demra Police Station. After breaking open the door, police recovered Saidul hanging from a ceiling fan with a bedsheet wrapped around his neck.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police said the evidence at the scene and surrounding circumstances suggest it was likely a suicide, although the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Camp Inspector Md. Faruk said, the body has been kept at the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.
