Construction of 'July Martyrs’ memorial begins today: Farooki
The government has officially launched the construction of the ‘July Martyrs’ memorial in all 64 districts of the country, starting today (Monday, July 14), to honor those who laid down their lives during the July Mass Uprising.
The announcement came during a press conference held at the Ganabhaban in the capital.Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, Adviser to the Interim Government on Cultural Affairs, shared details of the initiative, emphasizing its significance in preserving the memory of the martyrs.
“To commemorate the sacrifice of the July martyrs and pass on their legacy to the new generation, this initiative aims to establish permanent monuments in their honor,” said Farooki. “The program will begin in Narayanganj, and all construction is expected to be completed by August 4.”
Also present at the briefing was Sharmin S. Murshed, Adviser to the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs. She announced the commencement of work on compiling a comprehensive list of female fighters from the July uprising.
“In addition, under a special initiative titled ‘July Konna’ (Daughters of July), the Ministry of Social Welfare will implement programs focused on women’s empowerment,” she said.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the interim government to commemorate the July uprising through various programs, including the construction of memorials, recognition of female participants, and the launch of new welfare initiatives.
