Construction worker dies while trying to stop fight between colleagues in Kamrangirchar

A construction worker named Sakib, 35, died in Kamrangirchar while attempting to stop a clash between two of his colleagues.

The incident occurred at a building under construction on Road No. 18 in the Mahadinagar area on Thursday morning.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp in-charge Inspector Md Faruk confirmed the death citing doctors.

Fellow workers said that around 8am on the third floor of the building, two labourers named Jahangir and Yasin got into an argument that turned into a scuffle. Sakib and Monsur Ali stepped forward to calm the situation. In the pushing and shoving, Sakib lost his balance and fell onto a pile of sand. He then became unconscious. Colleagues rushed him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 9:30am.

Monsur Ali, who brought Sakib to the hospital, said no one had beaten Sakib. He fell during the pushing. He expressed surprise at how such a minor incident led to his death.

Monsur Ali added that Sakib was a resident of Noakhali but lived in the Mahadinagar area of Kamrangirchar for work.

Inspector Md Faruk of DMCH police camp said the body has been kept in the hospital morgue. A postmortem will be conducted as part of legal procedure to determine the exact cause of death.Kamrangirchar police said an investigation is underway to ascertain the real circumstances of the incident. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after receiving the postmortem report.
