Cop dies while attempting suspect arrest in Thakurgaon

A police officer died of a suspected heart attack while attempting to arrest a wanted suspect in Pirganj Upazila of Thakurgaon.

The incident took place around 1:00am in Senua village of Bhomradah Union in the early hours of Monday (February 16).

The deceased, Shahidul Islam Shahid, assistant sub-inspector (ASI), was serving as an ASI at Pirganj Police Station.

Majharul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pirganj Police Station, confirmed the death.

According to Dr. Tanzina, Shahid passed away before being brought to the Pirganj Upazila Health Complex. He reportedly experienced sudden chest pain, and while a preliminary assessment suggests a heart attack, a post-mortem is required to determine the exact cause.

The OC said a police team conducted a midnight raid to apprehend a wanted suspect. While placing the suspect in a vehicle, ASI Shahidul Islam Shahid reportedly felt severe chest pain. He was immediately taken to the health complex, where on-duty doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police believe the death resulted from a heart attack, with the post-mortem report expected to confirm the precise cause.
