Cop on alert outside National Medical as JCD remains in JnU area

Police remained on high alert outside National Medical Institute Hospital in the capital on Tuesday evening, while activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal and the BNP were seen gathered around the areas of Jagannath University and Kabi Nazrul College.

No activists from Islami Chhatra Shibir were seen in the area.

The heightened security follows an earlier incident in which several people injured during clashes involving Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir and Chhatra Shakti at Jagannath University were reportedly attacked after arriving at the emergency department of National Medical Institute Hospital for treatment. The incident triggered fresh tensions in and around the hospital.

Additional police personnel have since been deployed outside the hospital to maintain law and order.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rabiul Islam said the situation was currently calm.

He added that the injured individuals who had been receiving treatment at the hospital had been transferred to other medical facilities.

The OC said activists of Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal and the BNP remained stationed in the Jagannath University and Kabi Nazrul College areas, while police continued to maintain a strong presence to prevent any untoward incidents.
