BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman has said his political activities would not have been possible without the support of his wife, calling her role crucial in sustaining his long political journey.

“I attend meetings late at night and remain engaged in politics. If my wife had not supported me, I would not have been able to continue. In the same way, without your support, I cannot move forward,” he said.

He made the remarks while addressing a BNP election rally as the chief guest at Altafunnessa Playground in Bogura on Thursday midnight (January 29), organised by the district unit of the party.

Expressing gratitude, he said he was thankful to Allah for granting him the opportunity to return to his birthplace after nearly 19 years. Recalling his earlier tenure, he said efforts were made between 2001 and 2006 to carry out development work in Bogura Sadar and other parts of the district, adding that he would work to develop the entire district if given the chance again.

Tarique Rahman alleged that not only Bogura but the whole country had been deprived over the past 15–16 years. He accused the government of widespread corruption in the name of mega projects and vowed that a BNP-led government would curb corruption by all means.

He also pledged that jobs, business opportunities and other sectors would be managed strictly on the basis of merit. While assuring Bogura of its rightful share, he said care must be taken so that no other region is deprived.

The rally was presided over by Bogura district BNP President Rezaul Karim Badsha. The gathering drew a large crowd of leaders and activists, turning the venue into a sea of people.
