Country is passing through a critical phase: Mirza Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the country is currently passing through a critical phase, warning that a vested group is working behind the scenes to destabilise the situation and sabotage the upcoming election.
He said any damage to national unity at this time would cause serious harm to the country and urged everyone to remain cautious and united.
Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at a meeting with Islamic scholars at Manab Kalyan Parishad in Thakurgaon town on Sunday, December 28.
He said the Awami League had enacted one law after another to make its hold on power permanent, depriving people of their rights. During that period, Islamic scholars were labelled as militants, intimidated and many were detained. He said the country had moved past that dark time and now it was time to rebuild the nation anew.
He said the BNP’s commitment was clear and that no law would be enacted against the Quran and Sunnah. He alleged that a certain group was deliberately spreading misinformation claiming BNP was against Quran and Sunnah, which he described as false.
The BNP leader said the party had always stood by Quran and Sunnah and would continue to do so in the future.
Discussions at the meeting focused on the current political situation, social stability, protection of religious values and future steps. Mirza Fakhrul urged everyone to remain extremely careful so that the country does not slide back into darkness, warning that internal divisions would only benefit conspirators.
Calling the upcoming election extremely important, he said there were ongoing attempts to derail it and urged vigilance so those efforts do not succeed.
He also remembered, with deep sorrow, those killed in the July movement including Osman Hadi, Abu Sayeed and Wasim from Chattogram, and paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War.
