The government has called on citizens to remain firmly vigilant against all forms of violence perpetrated by extremist and separatist groups.

In a statement issued on Friday (December 19), the interim government said it unequivocally condemns acts of violence, intimidation, arson and the destruction of life and property. It noted that the country is passing through a critical phase marked by a historic democratic transition, which must not be derailed by the actions of a small group that thrives on disorder and rejects peaceful means.

The statement said the upcoming elections and referendum are not merely political exercises but a profound national commitment, inseparably linked to the ideals for which shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi laid down his life.

Honouring his sacrifice, it said, requires restraint, responsibility and a firm rejection of hatred.

The government also expressed solidarity with journalists of The Daily Star, Prothom Alo and New Age, saying it stands by them following recent incidents of violence. “An attack on journalists is an attack on truth,” the statement said, assuring full justice for those targeted.

Condemning the killing of a Hindu man in Mymensingh, the government said such acts have no place in the new Bangladesh and warned that those responsible would not be spared. It urged all citizens, at this critical moment, to reject and resist violence, provocation and hatred as a mark of respect to the memory of shaheed Hadi.
