Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said, “Over the past year, the country’s economy has progressed from the brink of collapse, through the ICU (Intensive Care Unit), and has now reached the High Dependency Unit (HDU).”

He made this comment on Tuesday (August 12) during a press conference at the Secretariat that showcased the Ministry of Finance’s progress over the past year, responding to a reporter’s question.

When asked about the timeline for the economy’s full recovery, the Finance Adviser said, “The economy is not yet strong enough to be discharged from the ICU. In a poor country, the economy does not go straight home from the ICU; it first moves to a paying ward or bed before finally returning home.”

However, he expressed hope, saying, “By mid-January next year, the country’s economy will be strong enough to move to the ward.”

“We plan to implement some basic economic reforms by December. Since elections are scheduled for February, we can only continue normal reforms until January. We have warned politicians that if they obstruct this work, the consequences will fall on their government,” he added.
