BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has condemned the killings of political leaders, including several from his party, and criticised the government for taking no effective action, saying, "The country’s law and order situation remains unsatisfactory ahead of the national election."

Speaking to reporters in Thakurgaon’s Kalibari on Friday (January 9), Fakhrul expressed hope the authorities would act responsibly to prevent recurrence of such incidents during the polls.

He also described BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman’s ongoing tour as entirely personal, noting plans to visit family graves and pay respects to party martyrs in Bogura, Rangpur, Dinajpur, and Thakurgaon, including a public prayer for the late Begum Khaleda Zia. Fakhrul said Rahman’s visits would energise party supporters.

Fakhrul further highlighted past restrictions on student organisations, including the student wing of his party, but asserted that university politics never influences national elections.

He reiterated BNP’s longstanding demand for parliamentary reforms, noting proposals submitted in 2016 and 2023 under the 31-point framework, and said the reform process is ongoing with no room for obstruction.
