Couple burnt to death after rescuing three children from fire in Dhaka
A husband and wife were killed after being trapped inside their burning house while rescuing their three children at Dohar upazila in Dhaka.
The tragic incident took place around 1:30am in Bilashpur Radhanagar village on Saturday (May 9).
The deceased were identified as Abdus Salam Sikdar and his wife Nasima Begum.
According to locals, a fire suddenly broke out at the couple’s tin-and-wood-built house late at night. Hearing their screams, neighbours rushed to the scene and tried to extinguish the flames.
Witnesses said the couple managed to bring their three children out of the house safely, but they themselves could not escape the blaze. Both died on the spot after suffering severe burn injuries.
Several units of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the area and brought the fire under control around 4:00am. The entire house was gutted in the incident.
The burnt home drew crowds of grieving locals on Saturday morning as residents gathered to witness the aftermath of the devastating fire.
Confirming the incident, Doha Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Bakar Siddique said the bodies had been recovered and sent for autopsy.
“We are investigating whether the incident was an accident or involved any form of sabotage,” the OC said.
