Couple found dead on same bed in Rajshahi

Police have recovered the bodies of a married couple from the same bed at Arifpur village in Bajubagha union under Bagha upazila of Rajshahi. The incident came to light, sparking intense widespread curiosity and sensation in the area on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Monirul Islam, 45, a resident of Arifpur village, and his wife, Shopna Begum, 38.

According to local residents, family members called out to the couple for a long time in the morning. Receiving no response, they pushed against the door. As the door was locked from the inside, they broke the lock of an adjacent room to gain entry, only to find the husband and wife lying unconscious on the same bed. Police were subsequently informed, and officers arrived at the spot to recover the bodies.

Serajul Huq, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagha Police Station, stated that the specific cause of death is not yet known. A poison bottle was recovered from the scene, and a smell of poison was detected around the mouths of the deceased. However, an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of their deaths.

He added that following legal procedures, the two bodies will be sent for autopsy. The actual cause of death will be confirmed once the autopsy report is received.

Police noted that the incident is being investigated with high priority, and all aspects are being examined to uncover the underlying cause of the deaths.
