Couple killed as private car hits motorcycle in Bogura
A married couple were killed after a private car hit their motorcycle in the Erulia area of Bogura Sadar upazila on Friday evening, August 7. Their seven-year-old grandson, who was also on the bike, was injured but is out of danger, police said.
The accident occurred around 5:30pm on the Bogura-Naogaon regional highway near Erulia airport in Sadar upazila.
The deceased are: Babul Hasan, 50, a gold trader and son of the late Moslem Uddin Molla from the Atapara area of Sadar upazila, and his wife Jesmin Begum, 45.
Bogura Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the matter.
Police and local sources said Babul Hasan was heading towards Naogaon on his motorcycle with his wife and seven-year-old grandson Julkar Naeen. A private car coming from the Naogaon side lost control and crashed into the motorcycle, killing Babul Hasan on the spot.
Locals rescued the critically injured Jesmin and the child and took them to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Jesmin dead. The injured child is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital and his condition is out of danger, police said.
An eyewitness, local resident Mirajul Mandal, said the accident appeared to have been caused by the driver's negligence. The private car lost control and hit the motorcycle. Though the motorcyclist tried to avoid the collision by moving to the left side of the road, they could not escape the impact.
Bogura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ibrahim Ali said the private car had been seized, but the driver fled the scene. Efforts are underway to arrest him. Legal action is being taken regarding the incident.
Earlier that morning, seven people had been killed in the same Erulia area when a passenger bus lost control and ran over workers. Just hours after that tragic accident, another fatal road crash claimed two more lives nearby.
