Couple killed in late-night house fire in Dinajpur

A husband and wife were killed after a fire broke out at their home in Dinajpur city early Monday (April 20).

The incident took place around 1:00am in the Suihari Ashrampura area, where the victims—Tapan Sarkar and his wife Lata Sarkar—were found dead inside their residence after the blaze was brought under control.

According to local residents, flames were first spotted late at night, prompting an immediate alert to the fire service. A firefighting unit rushed to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire shortly after arrival.

Dinajpur Fire Service Senior Station Officer Obaidul Islam confirmed the fatalities, stating that the recovery process of the bodies of the victims was carried out after the fire was contained.

Preliminary assessments suggest the fire may have originated from a gas cylinder leak, though authorities said a full investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.
