A couple was stabbed to death in their home in Pallabi, Dhaka. Police arrested a man named Gaus Mia from the scene. The incident occurred on Wednesday (28 May) afternoon.

Police said that the deceased law student, Dolon Akter Dola, 29, had a romantic relationship with Gaus Mia. The conflict arising from this relationship led to the murder of both Dola and her husband, Nazmul Hossain Pappu, 35.

Dola was pursuing an LLM course at a private university. Her husband, Pappu, worked in Barguna and occasionally visited her at their Pallabi home during holidays.

Police added that the arrested suspect, Gaus Mia, is a returnee from Saudi Arabia. He is from Kashiani Upazila in Gopalganj. About nine months ago, he met Dola on Facebook, and their friendship later turned into a romantic relationship. After returning to Bangladesh in January, Gaus rented a house near Dola’s residence and frequently visited her.

On Wednesday morning, Gaus went to Dola’s house intending to have breakfast with her. There, he saw Dola getting into a rickshaw with an unknown man (later identified as her husband). Enraged, Gaus returned home.

Later, around 1:30pm, Gaus went back to Dola’s house with a knife. When a woman opened the door after hearing the bell, she saw the knife in Gaus’s hand, panicked, and ran outside, locking the door behind her. She then called 999. Meanwhile, Gaus entered the house and fatally stabbed Pappu first, followed by Dola.

The CID forensic team collected evidence from the scene. The bodies were sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Zakaria of Pallabi Zone stated that during initial interrogation, Gaus Mia confessed to the murders. A murder case has been filed against him at Pallabi Police Station.
