Couple seen handling ‘pistol’ in Gazipur restaurant; video goes viral

A video showing a young couple handling what appears to be a pistol inside a restaurant in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur has gone viral on social media, prompting police investigation.

The one-minute-and-31-second clip, which began circulating on Facebook on Wednesday, shows a young man handing over a silver-coloured pistol to a young woman. At one point in the video, the woman is seen pointing the weapon at the man, who responds by making a finger-gun gesture. The footage appears to have been recorded with the couple’s knowledge.

Sreepur police have identified the man as Sajjad Hossain Morol Alif, 18, a resident of the MC Bazar area in Telihati union. The identity of the woman remains unconfirmed.

Speaking to the media, Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abdul Barik said the object seen in the video was a toy pistol.

“Although the video is old, it has recently come to our attention,” said OC Barik. “Alif was arrested a few days ago in a separate case filed on charges of abduction and extortion. He is currently in jail. Legal steps will be taken regarding the video as well.”

Police have not commented on whether the restaurant has been identified or whether any further individuals are under investigation in connection with the footage.
