Court acquits all 18 accused in Ctg Chhatra League leader Sohail murder case
A court has acquitted all 18 accused in the murder case of Nasim Ahmed Sohail, a student of Premier University Chattogram and executive member of Metropolitan Chhatra League.
Chattogram Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Md Jahidul Haque pronounced the verdict on Sunday, March 15.
The acquitted accused are – Wahid Jamal Nishan, Ziaul Haider Chowdhury, S M Golam Mostafa, Tamim Ul Alam, Kazi Md Zainal Abedin, Abu Taher Ujjal, Nurul Faysal, Md Rashedul Haque, Abu Foyez, Saifuddin Saif, Saiful Islam Sabik, Ibrahim Sohan, Saiful Tarek Chowdhury, Badsha Solaiman, Md Asif, Shamim Azad Munna, Nazmul Haque and Aslam.
Tribunal Public Prosecutor S U M Nurul Islam said the court acquitted the accused citing lack of evidence. The accused were present in court during the verdict.
According to case details, on March 29, 2016, Nasim Ahmed Sohail was killed in a stabbing in the WASA campus area following a dispute over a farewell programme at Premier University Chattogram. He was an MBA student at the university and a member of Bangladesh Chhatra League's Chattogram metropolitan branch.
Case documents state that the deceased Sohail was known as a follower of former Chattogram City Corporation Mayor A J M Nasir Uddin. His father, retired army officer Abu Taher, filed a murder case as plaintiff at Chakbazar Police Station over the incident.
Initially, 13 people were accused in the case, but after investigation, police submitted a chargesheet against 18 people in court. The court delivered the verdict after recording the testimony of 13 witnesses.
