A court has ordered the freezing of bank accounts and shareholdings of former Chairman of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Md. Siddiqur Rahman Sarkar, his wife Gazi Rebekah Rawshan, former BGB chief Major General (Retd.) Md. Safinul, and his wife Soma Islam.

Dhaka’s Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Monday (May 19), in response to two separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the ACC petitions, Md. Siddiqur Rahman and his wife hold a large number of shares across 13 Beneficiary Owner (BO) accounts. The ACC alleged that they were attempting to smuggle moveable assets—such as funds in various bank accounts, fixed deposit receipts (FDRs), and savings certificates—abroad. The ACC requested that these assets be frozen in the interest of a proper investigation.

Similarly, retired Major General Safinul and his wife Soma Islam have a total of Tk 6,20,05,963 across various accounts and FDRs in City Bank and Sonali Bank. The ACC’s investigation revealed that efforts were being made to liquidate and transfer these funds. As a result, the court granted the ACC’s request to freeze these accounts as well.

The petitions were filed on behalf of the ACC by its Director Md. Abul Hasnat.
