A Dhaka court has ordered the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice to arrest fugitive accused and prominent businessman Saiful Alam, Chairman of S Alam Group, along with his two brothers.

On Thursday, September 25, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faez passed the order following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The other two accused are Abdus Salam, Vice Chairman of S Alam Group, and Mohammad Abdullah Hasan, Director of the group.

Earlier in the day, ACC Deputy Director Tahasin Munabil Haque filed a petition seeking the Red Notice to arrest the absconding accused. After the hearing, the court granted the petition.

According to the ACC application, the accused, in collusion with one another, committed criminal misconduct and breach of trust by creating a fake company named AM Trading, preparing and using forged documents. They misappropriated Tk 104.20 crore by abusing their authority under the guise of loans. Through corruption, Saiful Alam transferred, rearranged, or converted this amount for the interest of S Alam Super Edible Oil, totalling Tk 340 crore. These offences fall under sections 409, 109, 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the Penal Code 1860, as well as sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act 2012.

It further stated that several attempts had been made to arrest the accused during the investigation, but they are absconding abroad. The petition urged that the arrest warrants against Mohammad Saiful Alam, Abdus Salam, and Mohammad Abdullah Hasan be executed through the Ministry of Home Affairs via Interpol.
