Court orders seizure of Putul’s Gulshan flat
A court has ordered the seizure of a flat in Gulshan belonging to Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
the Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Court, Zakir Hossain, gave the order on Tuesday, April 29, after a request from Monirul Islam, Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the ACC, the flat is worth Tk5.7 million. They claimed that Saima Wazed Putul was trying to transfer or sell the flat. If that happened before the investigation was complete, it could harm the case. So, the ACC said it was necessary to seize the flat to prevent this.
The court ordered the seizure of another property, the Sudha Sadan house in Dhanmondi, owned by Sheikh Hasina’s children – Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Saima Wazed Putul earlier, on March 11. The court also ordered the seizure of land and eight flats owned by Sheikh Hasina’s sister Sheikh Rehana, her son Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby, and daughter Tulip Rizwana Siddiq. The total market value of these assets is about Tk85.2 million.
In addition, 124 bank accounts related to Sheikh Hasina and her family have been frozen. 14 bank accounts of Saima Wazed Putul’s organization, Shuchona Foundation, were also frozen on March 4. 31 more accounts related to Sheikh Hasina, Rehana, Joy, Putul, and others close to them were frozen on March 18, .
These accounts hold about Tk3.95 billion in total. The same court ordered the freezing of additional accounts containing Tk161.25 million belonging to Sheikh Hasina, her sister, children, and their associates On April 9, .
