Court rejects bail plea of ex-CEC Nurul Huda
A Dhaka court on Wednesday rejected the bail petition of former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda in a case filed over alleged manipulation of the national election.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah issued the order after Huda’s lawyer submitted the bail petition before the court.
Earlier on July 1, KM Nurul Huda gave confessional statement in the case. Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman recorded Huda's statement under section 164 as the police produced him before the court after the end of his four-day remand in the case and pleaded to record his statement.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammad Zunayed on June 27 had placed KM Nurul Huda on a four-day remand in the case. Huda was placed on a four-day remand for the first time in the case on June 23.
BNP national executive committee member Md Salah Uddin Khan filed the case on Sunday morning against 24 individuals, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and three former chief election commissioners, for manipulating the national elections in 2014, 2018 and 2024.
Former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, four former inspectors general of police (IGPs), several former election commissioners, and ex-chiefs of the SB, NSI, and DGFI have been named as accused in the case.
Later on June 22, police took former CEC KM Nurul Huda into custody from his residence in Uttara Sector 5 after he was apprehended by a mob around 7pm. He was subsequently shown arrested in the case.
