Court sends RS Fahim to jail, bail hearing tomorrow

Content creator RS Fahim Chowdhury has been sent to jail by a court in the murder case of Md Imran filed at Gulshan Police Station in the capital related to the anti-discrimination movement.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam passed the order on Monday, March 30. The court also set Tuesday as the date for hearing on the bail application filed by the defence.

The accused was produced in court on Monday, after which police applied to keep him in jail custody. He was brought to court under police escort. Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki was present in court. The defence informed the judge that the bail hearing would be held on Tuesday, following which the court ordered him to be sent to jail.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon, local residents and a group of students detained him from the Mirpur Zoo area in the capital. They later handed him over to Shah Ali Police Station, from where he was transferred to Gulshan Police Station.

The case states that during the anti-discrimination movement on July 19, thousands of students and the public were marching in front of Subastu Market in Shahjadpur, Gulshan. Under the direction of top leaders of the then government and ruling party, members of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations, along with law enforcement agencies, opened indiscriminate fire on the protesters. Md Imran, who was returning home from work, was critically injured by shots fired by unidentified assailants when he voiced solidarity with the protesters. He was taken to United Hospital in Gulshan, where he died at 7:05 pm that day while undergoing treatment. A murder case was filed at Gulshan Police Station on April 25, 2025, over the incident.
