Court summons issued to Amir Hamza in new case
Kushtia-3 MP and Islamic preacher Mufti Amir Hamza has faced a fresh legal case, with the court issuing a summons against him.
On Thursday (April 2), Senior Judicial Magistrate Md. Suman Bhuiya of Chauhali Upazila Magistrate Court in Sirajganj issued the summons.
The case was filed earlier in the day at the Sirajganj Judge’s Court by Advocate Humayun Kabir, general secretary of the district bar association, alleging that Hamza had labeled Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku an atheist and anti-Islamic.
Public Prosecutor Shakil Mohammad Shariful Haider confirmed the matter, noting that he is representing the plaintiff in the case.
This follows a previous defamation suit filed on March 30 by former general secretary of the district BNP Lawyers’ Association, Advocate S M Nazmul Islam, seeking Tk 100 crore in damages over similar allegations.
