Covid: 1 dies, 6 new cases reported in 24 hours

The country has recorded one new death from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, while six new cases have been confirmed during the same period, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday (July 4).

Health officials reported that 239 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, with a positivity rate of 2.51 percent. The individual who died was a resident of Dhaka Division.

With this, the total number of COVID-19-related deaths in the country this year stands at 24.

Since the outbreak began in March 2020, the overall infection rate in the country has been 13.04 percent, according to DGHS data.

Bangladesh reported its first confirmed COVID-19 cases on March 8, 2020, and the first death from the virus occurred on March 18 of the same year. The pandemic peaked in August 2021, when a record 264 deaths were reported over two days, on August 5 and 10. However, infection and death rates have steadily declined since 2022, with many recent days reporting no fatalities at all.
