Ruhin Hossain Prince, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), said, “Like other democratic parties in the country, we also want the national election to be held by December.” He termed the proposed April election schedule as an “unnecessary delay” and warned, “Such a delay could give rise to anti-democratic forces.”

He made these remarks on Thursday (June 12) at a ‘Meet the Press’ event at Khulna Press Club.

Ruhin Hossain Prince said, “We have no disagreement regarding election institutions and justice. The necessary institutions for holding a fair and acceptable election must be ensured. The judicial process should also be visible. We believe it is possible to complete the election by December if these steps are taken. If the election is delayed, hegemonic forces may try to implement their agendas, and the election could be pushed even further.”

Regarding the demand to ban Awami League, CPB's General Secretary said, “We do not support banning any political party by executive order. But the kind of massacres they carried out – they show no remorse for it. They have lost the moral right to speak in the country’s political arena. If elections are not held soon, regressive forces may take advantage.”

Commenting on the upcoming meeting in London between the Chief Adviser and BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman, he said, “The ball is now in the government’s court.”

He also announced a Dhaka-Chattogram road march program on June 27 and 28 to protest against the decision to hand over the operation of corridors and Chattogram port terminals to foreign companies.

CPB leaders SA Rashid, Khulna Metropolitan CPB President HM Shahadat, General Secretary Nityananda Dhali, and former General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Babu were also present at the event.
