Crackdown must target drug lords, not just carriers: Home Adviser
Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday stressed the urgent need to apprehend not only drug carriers but also the powerful godfathers behind narcotics operations.
“Drugs are destroying our future generations and bringing disastrous consequences for families, society, and the state,” he said. “To combat this menace, officials of the concerned departments must undergo a change in mindset and work with sincerity. It is a sacred duty for all.”
The adviser made the remarks while presiding over a discussion meeting on Rohingya influx, camp management, and drug control, organized by the Cox’s Bazar district administration.
He also issued a stern warning against mob violence and extortion, declaring that such acts would not be tolerated under any circumstances. “Drug traffickers will be brought to justice,” he asserted.
The meeting, held at the BIAM Foundation Regional Centre auditorium, was attended by Faruq-e-Azam Bir Protik, Adviser to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, and Lieutenant General (Retd.) Abdul Hafiz, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Defense and National Unity Development.
Senior officials from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, RAB, BGB, the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commission, the Department of Narcotics Control, and other Home Ministry departments were also present.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Chowdhury emphasized the role of public awareness in preventing mob violence. “If people are aware, mob violence will not happen. Extortion and taking the law into one’s own hands will not be accepted. Strict action will be taken against violators,” he warned.
