Crash en route to state minister's event leaves 8 police injured
At least eight police personnel were injured when their vehicle overturned while heading to provide security and a guard of honour to Finance and Planning State Minister Jonayed Saki in Bancharampur, Brahmanbaria. Two of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.
The accident occurred on Friday morning, February 27, in the Bhelanagar area of Chhayfullakandi union in Bancharampur upazila.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Nabinagar Circle Piyas Basak said a team from Brahmanbaria Police Lines was heading to Bancharampur by vehicle to join a scheduled programme. When they reached the Bhelanagar area, the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned, falling into a roadside field.
Naik Jewel Mia and Constable Sharif were seriously injured in the accident. The other injured are Constables Mohiuddin, Mehedi Hasan, Jahir Rayhan, Abdul Salam, Mainul Hasan and ASI Nizam.
The injured were immediately rescued and taken to Bancharampur Upazila Health Complex. After primary treatment, the two critically injured members were sent to Dhaka's Central Police Hospital for advanced treatment.
Meanwhile, Finance and Planning State Minister Jonayed Saki arrived in the upazila around 12:30 pm on Friday. Another police team presented him with a guard of honour. Jonayed Saki performed Jumu'ah prayers at the upazila central mosque. Later, he visited the injured police members at the upazila health complex and inquired about their condition.
