The Bomb Disposal Unit of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has recovered and safely defused several bomb-like objects found beneath the Motijheel Metro Rail Station, triggering panic in the area after controlled explosions.

Motijheel Police Station Investigation Inspector Abdus Salam confirmed the development at around 8:15 pm on Friday.

He said police received information after 7:00 pm about suspected explosive devices beneath the metro station. Officers from the local police station, along with the CTTC Bomb Disposal Unit, rushed to the scene and safely neutralised at least two bomb-like objects. Authorities are continuing to search the area to determine whether any additional suspicious items remain.

According to law enforcement sources, it has not yet been confirmed whether the devices were bombs or improvised crude explosives. However, detonators were recovered from the two devices that were defused, and preliminary assessments suggest they contained high-powered explosive material.

Following the operation, police cordoned off the area and conducted an extensive search. CTTC personnel are collecting forensic evidence from the scene as investigators work to identify those responsible for placing the suspected explosive devices beneath the station.

No casualties have been reported so far. However, the discovery of the bomb-like objects and the loud controlled explosions caused widespread panic among people in the Motijheel area.
