A leader of the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) was attacked while refueling at a filling station in Hathazari of Chattogram, and has been admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
The injured, Masum Billah, serves as the Library and Cafeteria Secretary of CUCSU.
The incident took place around 8:00pm at M Alam Filling Station near Hathazari Bus Stand on Monday (March 30).
According to university sources, a group of youth attacked him with sharp weapons and sticks while he was refueling his motorcycle. Fellow students rescued him and initially took him to the university medical center. He was later shifted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital as his condition worsened.
Doctors said he sustained a deep injury above his eye along with multiple wounds on different parts of his body. A CT scan was required due to a serious head injury.
Masum Billah alleged that the attack stemmed from prior enmity. He claimed he became a target after assisting an injured student in securing compensation following a road accident near the vice-chancellor’s residence on March 4.
Chaksu Law and Human Rights Secretary Fazle Rabbi alleged that the attack was carried out under the leadership of one Rafiqul Islam. A case has been filed with Hathazari Police Station.
