Curfew extended in Gopalganj until Saturday morning
The local administration has extended the curfew in Gopalganj following deadly clashes that erupted around a National Citizen Party (NCP) rally earlier this week.
According to a directive issued by the District Magistrate on Friday, the curfew will remain in effect from 6:00 PM on July 18 until 6:00 AM on July 19.
The extension comes in the wake of continued unrest that began on July 16, when members of the banned Chhatra League and Awami League allegedly attacked an NCP procession. Several people were killed in the violence, prompting authorities to impose an initial curfew from 8:00 PM on July 16 to 6:00 PM the following day.
The curfew was subsequently extended in phases—first from 6:00 PM on July 17 to 11:00 AM on July 18, then again from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM the same day after a brief three-hour break.
Despite the ongoing restrictions, normal traffic resumed in Gopalganj town and surrounding areas on Friday morning. Inter-district bus services also restarted, and a noticeably higher number of people were seen on the roads compared to the previous day.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have urged residents to remain indoors and comply with curfew orders to ensure public safety.
