Customs officer goes missing at night, body found bloody in the morning
Customs officer Bullet Bairagi, 35, was returning to his residence in Cumilla after completing training in Chattogram. On Friday night, he boarded a bus heading from Chattogram to Dhaka. He had his last conversation with his family when he was close to his destination. His mobile phone was switched off shortly after.
On Saturday morning, his bloodied body was recovered from beside the Dhaka-Chattogram highway near the Irish Hill Hotel in the Kotbari area of Cumilla. The body was recovered around 7:45 am by Mynamati Highway Police. Family members identified the body after arriving at the highway police station around 1:00 pm.
Bullet Bairagi's home is in Tungipara, Gopalganj. He was appointed as an assistant revenue officer in the Customs, Excise and VAT department after being recruited in the 41st BCS. Due to his job, he lived in a rented flat in the Rajaganj Panpotti area of Cumilla. He leaves behind a nine-month-old daughter.
His mother, Nilima Bairagi, said her son was her only child. His last conversation with the family was around 2:30 am. At that time, he informed them he had gotten off at Paduar Bazar area and was heading to his residence in Rajaganj.
The family claimed that after 2:30 am, several unknown individuals spoke on his phone on a few occasions. After that, the phone was found switched off.
The body has been sent for autopsy. Officer-in-Charge Mominul Haque of Mynamati Highway Crossing Police Station said the actual cause of death will be known after receiving the report.
