Cyclone Dana likely to drench Bangladesh coast Thursday night

The severe cyclonic storm "Dana" in the East-central Bay and adjoining West-central Bay of Bengal has moved North-Northwest and is currently located over the West-central Bay of Bengal and nearby Northwest Bay.

As of 6:00 am today, it was approximately 595 kilometers Southwest of Chattogram port, 555 kilometers Southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 485 kilometers South of Mongla port, and 475 kilometers southwest of Payra port.

According to the No-9 special bulletin from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) released on Thursday morning, the storm is expected to continue moving in a North-Northwest direction.

As a result of the storm's peripheral effects, heavy rainfall (ranging from 44 to 88 mm) and very heavy rainfall (up to 289 mm) may occur, accompanied by gusty or squally winds over the North Bay, its offshore islands, chars, and coastal areas of Bangladesh.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 64 km of the severe cyclone center is about 90 kph rising to 110 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain high near the system center.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal No-3. All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
