Cyclone Remal: Leave of all ministry officials cancelled

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Mohibbur Rahman has said that the leave of the officials and employees of all the ministries including the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has been canceled in order to deal with the disaster and stand by the affected people due to Cyclone Remal.

He informed the reporters after the inter-ministerial meeting on disaster preparedness at the Secretariat on Sunday.

The state minister said that there is a risk of damage to the entire area from Satkhira to Cox's Bazar due to the effect of Remal. "I had a meeting today with everyone for this and asked them all to get prepared accordingly to deal with damage. At this time many important things have to be done. Because of this, the leave of the government employees has been cancelled."

He also said that more than 800,000 people have already taken shelter in shelters. The rest are invited to come. Schools in coastal areas will remain open for the time being. However, classes will be closed.

The state minister said that due to the cyclone, coastal areas may be flooded up to 10 to 12 feet high. If there is a tide, there is a risk of further increase.

Apart from this, he announced that the Bangabandhu Tunnel will be closed from Sunday evening to Monday morning due to the cyclone.
