Dandy Dye loan case withdrawn against Khaleda Zia, Tareque and 16 others

The case filed against 16 people, including BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and party Acting Chairman Tareque Rahman, over a 450 million taka defaulted loan of Sonali Bank to Dandy Dye, has been withdrawn.

On November 11, Dhaka Finance Court-1 Judge Sadekin Habib Bappi approved the withdrawal at the request of Sonali Bank.

On Tuesday, November 25, Sonali Bank’s panel lawyer Jahangir Hossain confirmed the matter, saying, “As Dandy Dye repaid the bank, we filed an application for withdrawal on the bank’s behalf. The court approved it.”

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Mostak Ahmed Quayel told BASSS, “The bank’s lawyers applied for withdrawal, which the court granted.”

The history of the case shows that on October 2, 2013, Nazrul Islam, Senior Executive Officer at Sonali Bank’s local branch, filed the case at Dhaka’s First Finance Court for default on 455,937,295 taka.

After the death of the defendant Arafat Rahman Koko, on March 16, 2015, his mother Khaleda Zia, wife Sharmila Rahman and two daughters Zafia Rahman and Zahia Rahman were joined in an Islamic Shariah partnership lawsuit.

On February 22, 2016, the court framed issues against 16 defendants, including Khaleda Zia and Tareque Rahman.

The defendants are: Dandy Dye Limited, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, BNP Acting Chairman Tareque Rahman, Koko’s wife Sharmila Rahman, daughters Zafia Rahman and Zahia Rahman, the late Saeed Iskander’s sons Shams Iskander and Safin Iskander, daughter Sumaiya Iskander, wife Begum Nasrin Ahmed, Gias Uddin Al Mamun and his wife Shahina Yasmin, Kazi Galib Ahmed, Shamsun Nahar and Masud Hasan.
