DB arrests 5 including RAB member while preparing for robbery in Banani

Detective Branch (DB) police have arrested five robbers red-handed while they were preparing for a robbery in Banani. They were arrested from in front of Khaer Palace on Road No. 4, Block A, Banani around 9:30am on Thursday, September 3.

The arrestees are: Md Masud Rana (29), Md Rajib Howlader (30), Hafizul Matbbar (24), Mohammad Shakil Hossain (24) and Md Badal (42).

DB sources said the arrested Md Masud Rana is a soldier of RAB. He is serving in the Dog Squad division at RAB headquarters.

According to DB sources, on Thursday, a special team of about 45 members conducted an operation based on information and arrested them in front of Khaer Palace on Road No. 4, Block A, Banani. Later, a search was conducted and arms used for robbery, walkie-talkies, handcuffs, a roll of black scotch tape and a shopping bag were seized from them.

When contacted, RAB Director of Law and Media Wing M Z M Intekhab Chowdhury said he was aware of the incident. The incident took place on Thursday morning and DB later arrested Masud Rana. After preliminary interrogation following the arrest, he was handed over to RAB authorities.

Intekhab Chowdhury further said RAB has formed an investigation board led by a major to probe the matter. The board will investigate the matter. If the allegations are found true, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken, he added.

At a press conference at Mintu Road in the capital, DB Chief and Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said legal action is underway at Banani Police Station against the five arrestees.

The DB official also said investigations are underway to determine whether the arrestees are linked to any organised criminal gang, the source of the recovered weapons and whether they were involved in any previous crimes.
