Detective Branch (DB) police have arrested former state minister for planning Dr Shamsul Alam. The arrest was confirmed to the media by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner Nasirul Islam. When asked about the case under which Shamsul Alam was arrested, he said, "Two of our police members were shot last night. We are currently occupied with that matter. Further details will be shared later."

সাবেক পরিকল্পনা প্রতিমন্ত্রী ড. শামসুল আলমকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়েছে। বৃহস্পতিবার ভোরে রাজধানীর মোহাম্মদপুর থেকে তাকে গ্রেপ্তার করে ঢাকা মহানগর গোয়েন্দা পুলিশ (ডিবি)। তাকে গ্রেপ্তারের বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেছেন ডিবির যুগ্ম কমিশনার (উত্তর) মোহাম্মদ রবিউল হোসেন ভূঁইয়া। তিনি বলেন, ‘মোহাম্মদপুর থেকে সাবেক প্রতিমন্ত্রী ড. শামসুল আলমকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়েছে। তাকে মিন্টো রোডের ডিবি কার্যালয়ে রাখা হয়েছে। তার বিরুদ্ধে মামলা রয়েছে। আজই তাকে আদালতে তোলা হবে।’ উল্লেখ্য, ২০২১ সালের জুলাইয়ে টেকনোক্রেট কোটায় পরিকল্পনা মন্ত্রণালয়ের প্রতিমন্ত্রী হন শামসুল আলম। তিনি পরিকল্পনা কমিশনের সাধারণ অর্থনীতি বিভাগের (জিইডি) সদস্য (সিনিয়র সচিব) ছিলেন। অর্থনীতিতে একুশে পদক পেয়েছিলেন তিনি।
