DCAB mourns death of Additional Foreign Secretary Ferdousi Shahriar

The Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) has expressed profound grief over the death of Additional Foreign Secretary Ferdousi Shahriar, describing her as a dedicated diplomat who made significant contributions to the country's foreign service.

In a condolence message issued on Wednesday (July 29), DCAB President AKM Moinuddin and General Secretary Emrul Kayesh paid tribute to Shahriar's distinguished diplomatic career, recalling her unwavering commitment to safeguarding Bangladesh's national interests both at home and abroad.

They prayed for the eternal peace of her departed soul and conveyed heartfelt condolences to her bereaved family.

Ferdousi Shahriar passed away on Wednesday afternoon while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital. She was 54.

According to a Foreign Ministry press release, she breathed her last at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital around 4:30pm.

Shahriar joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an Assistant Secretary on January 25, 1999, and served in several Bangladeshi diplomatic missions abroad, including Bangkok, Rome, Manchester and Washington.

She had most recently been serving as Bangladesh's High Commissioner to Singapore.

She is survived by her husband, three children and a host of well-wishers.

Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, the Prime Minister's Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed deep sorrow over her death.

They remembered her contributions to Bangladesh's diplomacy and prayed for the eternal peace of her soul while extending sympathies to her grieving family.
